Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and Analyses of Challenging Behavior

Children with or without disabilities may engage in problem behavior for diverse reasons. Our Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) and Analyses of challenging behavior are conducted by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) across diverse settings.* Depending on the severity and setting where the behavior occurs, an FBA (including a brief or extended functional analysis) will be conducted to identify variables maintaining the individual’s problem behavior.  Diagnosis of specific behavioral issues will be made when clinically appropriate. Procedures include direct observation of the child in various settings, thorough review of all pertinent medical, behavioral, and academic records, administration of specific tests as indicated, and interviews with all relevant adults including parents, teachers, and other professionals.

The assessment includes specific recommendations for parents, teachers, and other professionals, aimed at facilitating the child’s current and future success. Such testing and recommendations can also serve as the basis for requesting special education services and aid in the development of your child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).

*FBA services are available in Spanish.
